Bohemian-Austrian Rhapsody

You only have to look at the menu in a local restaurant or pub to come across the great influence of Bohemian cuisine. Dumplings, ‘powidl’ (a special plum jam) and delicious pastries called ‘golatsche’ are just a few examples of the dishes the Czechs and Slovaks have given Vienna. But there is much more….

Love Affairs and Weddings

Affairs, tragedies, and scandals that have made headline news are always interesting. For example, the love affair of Julius Meinl with the 40 years younger Japanese opera singer, Michiko Tanaka; or the many adventurous affairs of Alma Mahler-Werfel.

Elitist and Discrete Societies –
the Power behind the Throne?

Discrete societies and secret orders captivate most of us. In this walk you will hear amazing stories about legendary knightly orders, pious brotherhoods, and secret circles. Our tour spans from brave crusaders to the aristocratic Order of the Golden Fleece and the Freemasons. We will discover secret rites, signs and symbols and try to find out, what influence those societies used to have in the course of history – or maybe still have?

Leopoldstadt – a Walk in the 2nd District

There was a flood plain between the Danube river and the Danube canal for hundreds of years; only the Prater park still bears witness to this today.
In the 19th century a large proportion of the Jewish population came to settle on what was known as the ‘Mazzes Island’. Even today you can feel the colourful mix of cultures which makes this an exciting part of Vienna.

Kunsthistorisches Museum / Art History Museum - Picture Gallery

The first floor gallery is the most famous in the whole museum. You will see works by Breughel and Rubens along with Raphael's Madonna in the Meadow, Tintoretto's Susanna and the Elders and Titian's Ecce Homo - a firework of colour and artistry.
